While he's never been one to write with only one character in mind, he uses this to create a tale that is well worth the read. We all love to read a good story about good people doing good things, and when we read about the stories of those that are trying to change the world around them, we all have an opportunity to learn something. The topics of these stories can be anything from curing cancer to creating a space elevator, and they all have their own personal purpose.In many ways, Adrian Dingle Chemistry is probably best compared to Robert A. Heinlein's Time Enough for Love, and I think they share some similarities. Both writers' main interests are science fiction, and each writer creates a storyline that helps us better understand what it would be like to live in their world. The same is true of Adrian Dingle Chem istry.Though the main theme of Adrian Dingle Chemistry is likely genetic engineering, it doesn't really deviate too much from the plot that was set up in the earlier story. As always, we have our main characters, and all we have to do is read between the lines to figure out what their intentions are. We also have the people of New York City and what we learn about their problems with traditional medicine is definitely interesting.To help explain how the next few chapters progress, Dingle Chemistry takes a little detour to give us an idea of why the story is set in New York City, and how that affects the chemical properties of the city. This is a nice touch for a short story, as many science fiction writers don't take this route. It also gives readers an idea of what kind of chemical exposure to take place, so it isn't just a futuristic story about people using weird chemical compounds to cure or change the world.In addition to exploring the question of how chemical reactions are cre ated and applied to the environment, Adrian Dingle Chemistry takes a look at the role of genetics in the lives of the main characters. The family is one of the major forces of change in New York City, and these are the people that will be affected by the chemicals that are being used. Using this story as a springboard to discuss topics such as genetics, media manipulation, and the effect of technological development on society is very effective.Finally, the story of Adrian Dingle Chemistry also touches on the relationship between religion and science. Although religion is used as a reason for not changing what we've always done, there are still some people who are able to cling to their belief. These are the people that would be negatively affected by a certain change in the laws of nature, and a story like this can often shed light on those people who think that scientists will inevitably get rid of religion once and for all.If you are looking for a great science fiction story and aren't sure where to start, I recommend that you try a short story about one of the most common topics - genetics. Take a look at these performance tips from NY music teacher  Nadia B... You’ve practiced, rehearsed, and it’s finally time to share your vocal arts with others. Sometimes, though, components of a successful performance can be overlooked after you’ve spent so much time mastering the music. Key elements of stage presence for singers include setting a unique musical intention, making use of physical space and gestures, and creating connection in the moments directly before and after you sing, all of which will guarantee that you create an unforgettable and enjoyable performance. Establishing Your Musical Intention What makes live performance enjoyable is the spontaneity created by the performer-audience connection. It can never be the same twice. You can take advantage of this fact by taking a moment before your performance, or in the rehearsals leading up to your performance, to set a unique musical intention. What is a desired feeling you want to convey in each piece, in this performance? You can take into account the audience makeup (is it children, friends and family, judges of a singing competition, or the general public?), and the personal significance of the music for you. Setting this intention will ensure that your performance is meaningful and spontaneous, since you are interacting with the aesthetic of the music in a current and engaged way. Making Use of Physical Space Another element that differentiates stage presence for singers from other musicians is that singers are in a unique position to make use of physical space, both within their own bodies and in the environment. For this reason, an important part of your performance as a singer is to consider the physical possibilities. Are there certain times that movement would emphasize the musical setting or mood? Also consider physical gestures as a way to underline the key musical characteristics of each piece. At the end of the performance, a gracious bow allows the audience to fully savor and participate in your performance. They are thrilled that you have performed for them, and it is a sign of respect to acknowledge the pleasure and gratitude that they express with their applause. Brass Instruments Mouthpiece Care Shanika Making sure your instrument is clean and in proper working order is an essential step to musical bliss â€" that place in your mind where you can easily, effortlessly enjoy making music with your horn! Taking care of your mouthpiece is the first step. Here are some very easy things you can do to make sure your mouthpiece lasts long and plays loud. Daily Care Preventative measures are the best way to keep your mouthpiece shiny and clean. You will need: Your mouthpiece Mouthpiece brush (trumpet/French horn or trombone/euphonium/tuba) Spray bottle with clean water Clean cotton rag (a piece of an old sock or t-shirt will do) Here’s what to do: 1) Brush your teeth. When? After meals and before playing. Why? Most sediment in dirty instruments and mouthpieces comes from food particles left in the mouth after eating. 2) Spray mouthpiece and brush out any internal residue. When? After practicing and rehearsal. Why? Dry lips can leave skin particles that stick to the mouthpiece rims; dirty leadpipes can leave grime. Wipe off these areas any any residue in the mouthpiece cup. Deep Clean: Despite our best efforts at daily maintenance, mouthpieces tend to get gross or worn over time. A thorough mouthpiece cleaning about once a month will remove germs, gunk, and any other gross things that build up during normal use! Frequency: monthly Time needed: 30 minutes You will need: Your mouthpiece Mouthpiece brush (trumpet/French horn or trombone/euphonium/tuba) Mi-T Mist, FlavOmist, Sterisol, or other alcohol-based sterilizer Dish soap Drinking glass Clean cotton rag Silver polish cloth (optional, but DO NOT use for gold plated or plastic mouthpieces) Here’s what to do: 1. Add a drop of dish soap to the glass, then fill with enough warm water to cover the length of the mouthpiece. Make sure it’s not scalding hot as it could affect the finish of your mouthpiece. 2. Soak your mouthpiece for about 20 minutes in the soapy water to loosen buildup. If it is extremely dirty, allow to soak overnight. 3. Brush out from either end to fully remove buildup. 4. Rinse the mouthpiece under warm running water, dry with rag, then let air dry for about a minute. 5. Sterilize the mouthpiece with a couple of sprays, and allow to dry for another minute before wiping off the sterilizer. 6. If tarnished, use a silver polishing cloth to restore shine to shank and cup. 7. Repeat steps 4-5. Always rinse the mouthpiece after using a silver polishing cloth That’s it! What Should I Bring to My First Voice Lesson Suzy S. Excited about your first voice lesson? Beyond thinking about your goals for the lessons, youll also want to have an idea of what you need to bring. Get prepared with these tips for singing lessons from Austin, TX teacher Gfire M... I have been teaching my vocal technique, “Yoga for the Voice,” for over 18 years now, to students from ages 4-76 at all levels from beginning to advanced. And the one thing that almost all of my students bring to their first lesson is a mixture of fear and excitement! They are afraid that I will tell them that they can’t sing, yet they are excited about the process of learning to sing. So I thought I would address these issues and give you some encouraging answers! What should I bring with me? Bring a binder, blank paper, and a pen or pencil that you can use for lesson notes and handouts. Bring a bottle of room-temperature water so that you can stay well hydrated during the lesson for optimal vocal exercising. Bring an open mind singing and breathing exercises may seem a little weird at first! Write down any questions that you have for your teacher. If you have music you are already working on, bring that sheet music or CD with you. You can also email sheet music or music audio files to your teacher prior to the lesson. Will I really be able to sing? No worries the answer is always “Yes!” If you can speak, you can learn how to sing, because you are using the same exact instrument for speaking and singing. Obviously, singing uses more notes and technique, but you really can leave your worries behind and just focus on utilizing your unique vocal instrument. Does it matter what style(s) I want to learn? Absolutely not! Good singing technique is useful for singing pop, rock, RnB, musical theater, opera, country, folk, metal, gospel, singer/songwriter, etc. Again, you are just using your natural voice to express any musical style that appeals to you. I have taught musical theater singers how to wow at auditions, touring rock singers how to maintain their voices during grueling tours, “screamo” singers how to scream in tune, kid singers how to master an age-appropriate song, reality show applicants how to choose and deliver the best material to get onto American Idol or The Voice, church singers how to sing a solo confidently, and every other variety of singer under the rainbow. Do I have to practice outside of vocal classes? Well yes, if you want to be a great singer! The voice is an instrument, just like piano, guitar, or clarinet. To truly master the voice is a matter of practicing placing the notes without pushing them and that takes at least three short practices per week outside of voice lessons, even if it is only for 10-15 minutes. Okay, I am ready how do I start? If you really want to learn to sing well, make the commitment! This is one of the best tips for singing. Purchase one to three months of voice lessons and start thinking about where in your schedule you can place your minimum of three practices a week outside of your lessons. I like to get my students to make a list of 10 songs that they would LOVE to learn to sing that way you have goals that are fun and achievable. It is also really helpful if you have a piano or keyboard available for you to play your singing exercises on. I am happy to play your exercises for you, but if you learn to play the exercises and sing them, you really end up singing with more confidence and better technique. With these tips for singing lessons, you can get ready to start singing the songs you want to sing, expressing your own talents and creativity. You deserve to sing and yes, you can make it happen!
